'Where was your grandfather' debate grows: Document of Erdoğan's grandfather shared

The debate in politics, which began over the "executioner" polemic, has now been brought to the agenda with a post regarding President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's grandfather. The response to CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's statements came from AKP Youth Branch President Yusuf İbiş.

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in his statement the previous day, had said, "My nation knows very well who shed the blood of our Kurdish brothers, starting from Tunceli under the guise of fighting terrorism, up until our term. My Kurdish brother knows very well who the executioner is. Mr. Özel should not divert the target; if he has the courage and wants to see an executioner, he should look in the mirror and look at the history of the CHP."

RESPONSE FROM ÖZGÜR ÖZEL IN SILIVRI

Following these remarks, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel responded to Erdoğan in a statement he made after visiting his party's presidential candidate, Ekrem İmamoğlu, in Silivri, with the following expressions:

"Erdoğan will get no political gain from this debate. You will make references to history, to the distant past, going back decades, centuries... When we said 'We founded the Republic,' the Republican People's Party rightly says, 'Ah, there was a single party then, all of our grandfathers were there.' Good. 'The party that saved Turkey, that founded democracy, that brought democracy.' 'There was a single party, we were there, our grandfathers were there.' Then he finds a field of hostility from history and scratches it, saying 'The CHP did it,' where was your grandfather? Where is it? Our grandfathers were shoulder to shoulder in Çanakkale. While making a reference to something that could extract painful hostility from history, the CHP is alone. Where is the abundance of this yogurt?"

AKP YOUTH BRANCH PRESIDENT JOINED THE DEBATE

Following Özgür Özel's statements, AKP Youth Branch President Yusuf İbiş also joined the debate. İbiş shared the martyrdom certificate, which is stated to belong to President Erdoğan's grandfather, on his social media account.

STATEMENT WAS MADE BY THE MINISTRY OF NATIONAL DEFENSE IN 2018

In a statement made by the Ministry of National Defense in 2018, it was stated that President Erdoğan's grandfather, Kemal, son of Mustafa, went to the military during the Sarıkamış Operation and was martyred during his military service. The statement reported that the phrase "unknown in the military" was included in the archive records.
