Istanbul is at the top of the list of provinces where the results of the local elections are most anticipated. Azmi Karamahmutoğlu, the Zafer Party candidate running to lead Istanbul, spoke to 12punto.

The fiercest competition in the elections to be held on March 31 will take place in Istanbul. In Istanbul, 22 party candidates and 30 independent candidates will compete. There will also be a debate on nationalism among the much-discussed candidates in Istanbul. While the MHP is supporting AKP candidate Murat Kurum due to their alliance, the IYI Party has nominated Buğra Kavuncu, and the Zafer Party has nominated Azmi Karamahmutoğlu. Karamahmutoğlu also holds the title of being the last Ülkü Ocakları Chairman appointed by Alparslan Türkeş before his passing.

We spoke with Azmi Karamahmutoğlu, who had expressed his thoughts on running against Ekrem İmamoğlu in an interview days before becoming a candidate, about why he is running, the agenda of Istanbul, his projects, and the direction of nationalist votes.
