Deputy Speaker of the TBMM and DEM Party Istanbul MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder fell ill at his home in Istanbul on the night of Tuesday, April 15. After suffering a heart attack, Önder was taken by ambulance to Florence Nightingale Hospital at 23:00.

Following examinations, it was determined that he had an aortic dissection, and a decision was made to take him into surgery immediately.

According to the latest information, Önder's surgery has concluded. It was learned that Önder was moved to the intensive care unit following the 10-hour operation. A statement from the hospital regarding his current condition is expected.

Önder’s treatment is continuing at the Florence Nightingale Hospital in Şişli. Speaking to members of the press in front of the hospital while the surgery was ongoing, DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan stated that the long duration of the operation was expected and that their hopes remain high. Doğan noted that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, many other political leaders, and party representatives have inquired about Sırrı Süreyya Önder’s health status. Stating, 'We are facing a difficult case, but its difficulty does not mean it cannot be successful,' she expressed that they are following the process with hope.

Sırrı Süreyya Önder was born in 1962 in Adıyaman. A high school graduate, Önder has also worked in fields such as film directing, screenwriting, and column writing. Önder began his political career as a 24th-term Istanbul MP and served as an Ankara MP during the 25th and 26th terms. He currently continues his duties as Deputy Speaker of the TBMM.
