According to a report by Cumhuriyet, it has been learned that the People's Alliance has decided to 'field a candidate with a nationalist background' against Mansur Yavaş in Ankara.
Furthermore, Erdoğan had requested last week that members of parliament, district mayors, and provincial and district organization managers write down the names of three candidates they “would like to see as candidates for metropolitan and district municipalities.” The voting resulted in the names of former Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum, AKP Ankara Provincial Chairman Hakan Han Özcan, and Keçiören Mayor Turgut Altınok. It is stated that “Altınok received more votes” in the balloting.
MHP HAD ALSO 'SIGNALED'
Within the scope of the cooperation efforts in the People's Alliance, it was claimed that the MHP also wanted a candidate with a background in the Nationalist Work Party (MÇP)—the former name of the MHP—to be fielded against Mansur Yavaş, who also began his political life in the MÇP. It is stated that the People's Alliance will “make the MÇP move against Yavaş.” It is argued that Altınok, who served as the Keçiören District Chairman in the MÇP and rose to the position of Secretary General in the MHP after the September 12 coup, is “a candidate who can compete against Yavaş and win Ankara due to this MHP past.”
