While debates continue over whether there will be an alliance between the CHP and the İYİ Party in the local elections, it has been stated that CHP leader Özgür Özel, who recently said, "I believe we will overcome many difficulties with my sister Meral," has postponed his meeting with Meral Akşener to a later date. On the other hand, it was learned that Özel is waiting for the "turmoil" within the İYİ Party to subside.

As the country heads toward local elections, debates over alliances continue within the opposition wing.
Although the İYİ Party has closed the doors to an alliance with the CHP by deciding to field candidates in all 81 provinces, CHP leader Özgür Özel sent warm messages regarding an alliance by stating, "I believe we will overcome many difficulties with my sister Meral."
Having started a flurry of internal party meetings with the determination of the new administration, the CHP held its Central Executive Board (MYK) and Party Assembly (PM) meetings yesterday under the chairmanship of Özgür Özel.
The agenda of the meetings included the issue of amnesty for those who received disciplinary penalties due to the party's 100th anniversary, preparations for the local elections, and the party charter congress.
APPLICATIONS EXTENDED
According to a report by Cumhuriyet, staff members who shared the local election work discussed at the MYK stated that work regarding surveys to be conducted for the candidate determination process in the provinces has begun, and that primary elections and field work will follow in the coming period. It was learned that the party's candidate application deadline has been postponed to December 5 due to high demand and the recommendations of provincial chairs.
It was also noted that members of parliament will begin visiting their provinces starting next week to prepare reports for candidacy efforts.
CHARTER AMENDMENT IN SEPTEMBER
Making a press statement after the PM meeting, CHP Spokesperson Deniz Yücel said that they would hold the charter congress on the party's anniversary instead of the proposed month of May. Yücel said, "We decided to convene the PM in Sivas on September 4, 2024. We planned to hold our charter congress in such a way that it would be completed in Ankara on September 6-7-8-9, on the anniversary of our party, by having our charter commission hold its final meeting on September 5. After our charter congress, we decided to hold the first meeting for the preparation of our program congress on September 9."
‘THE TWO LEADERS MAY MEET’
When asked whether there would be a meeting with İYİ Party leader Meral Akşener, Yücel said, "Both leaders may come together in the coming days. It is not possible for me to give a date for now." It was noted that the subject was also brought up at the PM meeting and that the opinion was expressed that it would be more appropriate to wait for the confusion within the İYİ Party to end. It was reported that Özel also agreed with this view.
‘WE WILL MEET EXPECTATIONS’
Evaluating the reason for the postponement of the charter congress, PM members said, "We have a local election process on March 31. We are focused on that right now. But the legal process regarding the charter has begun. A commission will also be formed. Global examples will be examined, and opinions will be taken from the organizations. In the end, a charter amendment will be produced that exceeds the public's expectations along with the promises made."
