Zafer Party Deputy Chairman Ali Şehirlioğlu expressed his reaction in a statement made in front of the Constitutional Court (AYM) regarding the fact that an indictment has not been prepared for Zafer Party Chairman Prof. Dr. Ümit Özdağ, despite 65 days having passed since his arrest.

Şehirlioğlu stated the following:

"We have come here today, in front of the Constitutional Court, to complain about a legal disgrace that has been ongoing for 65 days to the highest judges tasked with protecting the Constitution of the Republic of Turkey.

Although we officially filed this complaint about a month ago, we have come today to demand that the process of holding our Chairman, Mr. Prof. Dr. Ümit Özdağ, who is a credit to the country as an opposition leader, hostage be ended and that this be done as quickly as possible.
We have come to complain about the judges and prosecutors who unlawfully detained our Chairman, initiated proceedings against him for "insulting the President" despite having no authority to do so, and, upon realizing that nothing would come of it, resorted to arrest by adding a new charge to the content of the file.
We have come to complain about the Kayseri Provincial Police Chief, who, during our Chairman's detention process, complied with the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor by preparing a document requested from him in 35 minutes and sending it to the Prosecutor's Office unsigned, who caused our Chairman's arrest by making forced interpretations that exceeded his job description in this document, and who has done everything for days to avoid sending a ready-made report that was already prepared during the Kayseri events, which was requested by our lawyers during the detention process.
We have come to criticize the reckless use of the law as a cudgel by an unruly government that now sees itself above the laws and our Constitution. We have come to demand an immediate end to the unlawful detention of a professor who has trained thousands of security personnel and bureaucrats who manage the country, Prof. Dr. Ümit Özdağ, a political leader who works day and night to protect the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the secular, democratic Republic of Turkey he founded, to protect its unitary structure, to uphold the Constitution, and to carry it into the future; a son, a father, a brother, and above all, a patriot.
We have come here today to shout that the freedom of a political party leader, a Turkish citizen, has been usurped. We have come here today not to beg for freedom, but to ensure that the hostage body of our Chairman, who is already free, is released from Silivri and that those who committed these illegalities are held accountable before the law as soon as possible.
We have come to shout that even though they have arrested our Chairman, we who have devoted our hearts to the Zafer Party will not give up on our cause, that even if you arrest us, the brothers who come after us will continue the cause of the homeland, and that you cannot silence us.
We respectfully submit this to the Great Turkish Nation and the public..."
