As the judicial process regarding the suspicious death of Van Yüzüncü Yıl University student Rojin Kabaiş continues, users of certain social media accounts sharing news and allegations related to the case have faced access bans. Among these accounts is the profile of journalist Rengin Temoçin, which featured reports on the investigation.
It was learned that the blocking decision was taken under Article 8/A of Law No. 5651. This decision, implemented by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), has been interpreted as hindering the sharing of allegations that have recently caused widespread public concern. The blocking of social media content has also sparked a debate over the restriction of the flow of information regarding the case.
The "Justice for Rojin Platform," which shares updates on Rojin's case, also issued a statement regarding the access ban. The platform's remarks drew attention: "An access ban was imposed in Turkey following a report on our post announcing that DNA samples from Hamdullah Şevli and Enes Şevli had been taken by official institutions. Are you afraid of the truth coming to light that you are resorting to access bans? Why are you uncomfortable with the sharing of concrete information?"
