The İzmir Journalists Association has pointed out that the media sector is under threat, stating that traffic losses caused by Google's algorithm changes are negatively affecting media organizations. The association called for urgent measures to be taken to ensure the survival of independent journalism and the local press.
The association's board of directors announced that it issued this statement to inform the public about the issue. The association noted that it expects the relevant parties to take action to resolve the problems faced by media organizations.
Emphasizing that Google needs to review this process to ensure the survival of independent journalism and the local press, the association stated the following:
''News websites of media organizations broadcasting in Turkey are facing major traffic losses due to the algorithm changes systematically implemented by Google, and the local press is also being negatively affected by this situation.
This sudden traffic loss applied by Google to reader traffic is leaving the media sector and local press organizations facing dire circumstances. As the İzmir Journalists Association, we expect this process implemented by Google to be corrected as soon as possible and for the necessary measures to be taken to ensure that independent journalism and the local press survive.
We present this to the public's information.''
