Journalist Can Bursalı released under judicial control
Following his testimony in Istanbul as part of an investigation into his news reports and social media posts, Can Bursalı was released on the condition of signing in at a police station three days a week and a travel ban.

Journalist Can Bursalı went to the prosecutor's office today to provide his statement in line with an investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. The accusations directed at him included allegations of "slander," "insult," and "insulting the Turkish Nation, the State of the Republic of Turkey, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, the government, and the judicial organs of the state."
Some of Bursalı's posts on the social media platform X, and particularly his reports regarding the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) case and the mining disaster in Amasra, were cited as the focal points of the investigation. Journalist Can Bursalı denied all charges, arguing that the relevant posts and reports were within the scope of journalistic activity.
Following his statement at the prosecutor's office, Bursalı was referred to the duty magistrate judge with a request for judicial control. After the evaluation, it was decided that he would be released on the condition of signing in at a police station three times a week and being subject to a travel ban.
The process against Bursalı has once again brought discussions on press freedom to the agenda.
