3-day protest ban in Mardin

A 3-day ban has been imposed on activities in open areas in Mardin, including gatherings, marches, and press statements.

The Mardin Governor's Office issued a statement regarding the matter.

The statement announced that, effective from August 15, all activities in open areas such as gatherings, marches, and press statements are prohibited across the city until 3:00 PM on August 18.

The Governor's Office statement included the following remarks:

"In order to protect the fundamental characteristics of the Republic, the indivisible integrity of the state with its territory and nation, national security, and public order; to prevent actions and attacks that are assessed to directly and clearly constitute the conditions for limitation and prohibition stipulated in our Constitution and laws; to prevent terrorist acts and the commission of crimes; to protect the rights and freedoms of others; and to prevent possible provocations and potential social incidents; all types of activities in open areas, including gatherings, all kinds of outdoor and indoor meetings, rallies, marches, press statements, hunger strikes, sit-ins, vigils, setting up stands, pitching tents, drone filming activities, conducting surveys, distributing leaflets and brochures, and hanging posters or banners are prohibited within the provincial borders of Mardin, including the city center, districts, and all police and gendarmerie responsibility zones, for a period of 3 days from 3:00 PM on Thursday, August 15, to 3:00 PM on Sunday, August 18, 2024, pursuant to Articles 17 and 19 of the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911 and Article 11 of the Provincial Administration Law No. 5442, with the exception of events deemed appropriate by the Governor's Office and District Governorships."
