'Afghanistan' decision in the Official Gazette
A new decree approved by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has been published. It includes regulations regarding "Visa Exemption for Diplomatic Passport Holders," introducing significant changes to visa procedures for Afghan citizens.

With a decision published under Erdoğan's signature, the visa exemption practice for diplomatic passport holders between the Republic of Türkiye and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is being suspended as of June 1, 2024.
With the agreement signed in 2007 and entered into force in 2008, diplomatic passport holders had obtained the opportunity to travel without a visa. However, in accordance with Article 3 of Presidential Decree No. 9, this exemption ends as of June 1.
From now on, Turkish citizens wishing to travel to Afghanistan with a diplomatic passport will be required to obtain a visa. Likewise, Afghan citizens wishing to travel to Türkiye with a diplomatic passport will also be required to obtain a visa.
