Are working hours being reduced? Minister Işıkhan explains

Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan issued an important warning regarding the discussions on the reduction of working hours. Minister Işıkhan stated, "Do not take into account reports in the public domain unless an official statement has been issued by the Ministry."

"FUTURE WORK WILL BE DETERMINED THROUGH SHARED VIEWS"

Minister Işıkhan noted that there have been intense discussions and reports regarding working life recently, and expressed the following on the matter:

"We see that there have been many comments and reports regarding working life recently that do not originate from us. Of course, working life has a dynamic structure and is always a field to be discussed, asking 'How can we make it better?' We always prioritize protecting the acquired rights of our workers and employers. Therefore, I would like to state that reports in the public domain should not be taken into account unless a statement comes directly from us. I would like to add that the work to be done will be determined through the shared views of all stakeholders in working life."

THE ISSUE OF "INFORMAL EMPLOYMENT"

Furthermore, Minister Işıkhan stated that they aim to reduce informal employment in working life and that labor force participation rates are expected to reach their highest level in the 2023 data to be announced next month. Işıkhan also emphasized positive developments such as the emergence of the lowest unemployment rate in the last 22 years and the placement of 15 thousand 262 women in jobs within the scope of the Job Positive program.
