Ergün Atalay re-elected as TÜRK-İŞ President

Ergün Atalay has been re-elected as president at the 24th Ordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions (TÜRK-İŞ).

According to a statement from the Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions (TÜRK-İŞ), the confederation's 24th ordinary general assembly was held at a hotel in Ankara between November 30 and December 2.

RE-ELECTED AS PRESIDENT

In the elections held today as part of the general assembly, 398 delegates cast their votes. 396 votes were counted as valid, while 2 were deemed invalid. As a result of the voting, Ergün Atalay became the President of TÜRK-İŞ once again.

TÜRK-İŞ General Secretary Pevrul Kavlak, General Financial Secretary Ramazan Ağar, General Education Secretary Nazmi Irgat, and General Organization Secretary Eyüp Alemdar were also re-elected to their positions.

WHO IS ERGÜN ATALAY?

He was born in Adapazarı in 1954. He graduated from Donatım Primary School in 1967. In 1968, he entered the TCDD Apprenticeship School and graduated in 1972. In the same year, he started working at the Adapazarı Wagon Factory. In 1978, he was appointed as the workplace union representative at TÜVASAŞ. In the elections held in 1982, he was elected as the Financial Secretary of the Adapazarı Branch of the Railway Workers' Union (Demiryol-İş), and in 1992, he was elected as the Branch President. He served as a member of the Supervisory Board of the Railway Workers' Union. In 1999, he was elected President at the 6th Ordinary General Assembly of the Railway Workers' Union. He was re-elected to this position in 2003, 2007, 2011, and 2015.

In December 2002, he entered the TÜRK-İŞ Board of Directors from the reserve list and was appointed as General Education Secretary. He was elected to the position of General Financial Secretary at the 19th, 20th, and 21st Ordinary General Assemblies. He was re-elected to the position of President at the 22nd and 23rd Ordinary General Assemblies of TÜRK-İŞ, held on December 3-6, 2015, and December 5-7, 2019, respectively. Atalay is married and a father of three.
