Following the price hikes in public transportation fares, the increase in taxi fares has also become a subject of curiosity. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME) announced that public transportation fares have been increased by 35 percent as of 2025.
INCREASE IN TAXI METER OPENING AND SHORT-DISTANCE FARES
Before the price hike in January 2025, the last fare increase took place in July 2024. At that time, the taxi meter opening fee had risen from 24.55 TL to 30 TL, and the per-kilometer rate had increased from 17.61 TL to 20 TL. The short-distance (indi-bindi) fare had also been raised from 90 TL to 100 TL.
Following the UKOME meeting, the taxi meter opening fee in Istanbul rose from 30 TL to 42 TL, and the minimum fare, known as the short-distance fee, increased from 100 TL to 135 TL.
