The Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which will set the minimum wage for 2025, will meet for the second time today at 14:00.
WHAT HAPPENED IN THE FIRST MINIMUM WAGE MEETING?
While the parties held their first meeting on December 10, TÜRK-İŞ Deputy Chairman Ramazan Ağar stated after the meeting, "No figures were discussed in the first meeting." Ağar said, "If a reasonable wage is offered, we can agree on that wage. We will not participate in the projected and realized inflation rates, but we want a figure that will make people smile."
MINIMUM WAGE STATEMENT FROM VEDAT IŞIKHAN
Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan stated in his recent remarks that the minimum wage plays a vital role in ensuring social justice and economic growth. Minister Işıkhan emphasized that as a Ministry, they are making every effort to ensure the minimum wage is determined in a balanced way for both employees and employers.
WHEN WILL THE 2025 MINIMUM WAGE BE ANNOUNCED?
In January 2024, the minimum wage was set at 17,002 TL with an increase of 49.11 percent. There was no interim raise in July 2024. The new minimum wage that will be valid for 2025 will be calculated by taking the year-end inflation rate into account.
HOW IS THE MINIMUM WAGE DETERMINED?
The minimum wage is determined by the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which consists of 15 people in total, with five representatives each from the workers, employers, and the government, as required by law. The commission meets on dates determined in December to set the new minimum wage.
The commission, chaired by one of the members appointed by the Ministry, meets with the participation of at least 10 members and makes decisions by majority vote. In the event of a tie, the side represented by the chairman is considered to have the majority.
