As in previous years, 4 worker representatives will take part in the Minimum Wage Determination Commission this year as well. So, when and at what time will the 2025 minimum wage hike meeting be held?
WHEN AND AT WHAT TIME IS THE MINIMUM WAGE HIKE MEETING?
The Minimum Wage Determination Commission will hold its first meeting on Tuesday, December 10, at 16:00.
At the meeting hosted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, the employer side will be represented by the Turkish Confederation of Employer Associations (TİSK), and the worker side will be represented by TÜRK-İŞ, the confederation with the highest number of members.
HOW IS THE MINIMUM WAGE DETERMINED?
By law, the minimum wage is determined by the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which consists of 15 people in total, with five representatives each from workers, employers, and the government.
The commission is called to a meeting by the Minister of Labor and Social Security and meets four times in December as part of the process to determine the new minimum wage.
The commission, chaired by one of the members designated by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, meets with the participation of at least 10 members and makes decisions by majority vote.
If the votes are tied, the side that includes the commission chair is considered to have the majority.
HOW MANY WORKERS WILL BE AT THE TABLE?
The 5-person Türk-İş delegation representing the workers on the commission will be led by Deputy Chairman Ramazan Ağar. As in previous years, 4 workers will be in the delegation this year.
Workers will be represented at the table by cook Selma Sayın, hairdresser Nihan Koçak, subcontractor worker Durmuş Öztürk, and journalist Sezer Özseven.
WHEN WILL THE MINIMUM WAGE BE ANNOUNCED?
The first meeting for the minimum wage hike that will be valid in 2025 will be held on Tuesday, December 10.
It is expected that the new minimum wage will be determined following three meetings to be held regarding the minimum wage hike.
CURRENT MINIMUM WAGE IS 17 THOUSAND 2 LIRA
Currently, the minimum wage for a worker is applied as 20 thousand 2 lira and 50 kuruş gross, and 17 thousand 2 lira and 12 kuruş net after deductions.
The total cost of the minimum wage to the employer for one worker is calculated as 23 thousand 502 lira and 94 kuruş. Of this, 20 thousand 2 lira and 50 kuruş is the gross minimum wage, 3 thousand 100 lira and 39 kuruş is the social security premium, and 400 lira and 5 kuruş is the employer's unemployment insurance fund.
