IMM responds to allegations regarding metro projects

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) has responded to allegations that external loans secured for metro projects were used for purposes other than those intended.

In the statement issued, it was noted that such allegations do not reflect the truth and that all financing has been utilized for the relevant projects.

The IMM emphasized that it has secured a total of 2.3 billion Euros in external financing for the metro projects it took over in 2019 and that the entire amount has been spent on these projects.

It was stated that these funds were obtained with the approval of the Presidency of Strategy and Budget, the Municipal Council, and the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, in accordance with international audit and transparency rules. Furthermore, it was noted that expenditures are audited by the Court of Accounts, the Civil Service Inspection, and financial institutions.

The statement highlighted that projects such as Ataköy-İkitelli, Dudullu-Bostancı, and Çekmeköy-Sultanbeyli were brought to life thanks to this financing. The IMM stated that the allegations regarding the misuse of external financing are false and slanderous, announcing that it will initiate legal proceedings regarding such publications and that all necessary legal actions will be taken against individuals and institutions that mislead the public.
