The Nakliyat-İş Union, affiliated with the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DİSK), held a solidarity action with Migros warehouse workers who have been on strike for 13 days under the leadership of DGD-Sen.
‘300 WAREHOUSE WORKERS DISMISSED WITHOUT SEVERANCE PAY’
In its press statement, Nakliyat-İş announced that approximately 300 warehouse workers were dismissed without severance pay "as a result of this struggle initiated against the starvation wages imposed on workers under conditions of rising cost of living and high inflation."
DEMAND: TO LIVE HUMANELY
The statement conveyed the demands of the Migros warehouse workers. "They are struggling with demands for a wage that will allow them to live humanely, for wages to be increased based on real inflation rates, for a 50% wage increase, for job security to be ensured, for an end to subcontracting and precarious work practices, for the payment of promotional bonuses, for the recognition of union organization, and for DGD-Sen to be taken as a counterpart."
THEY RESISTED AGAINST THOSE WHO IGNORE THE WILL OF THE WORKERS
According to the report, Nakliyat-İş General President Ali Rıza Küçükosmanoğlu "emphasized that it is unacceptable to impose wages on workers that are even below the TÜİK data, which does not reflect reality, in the face of rising inflation; and criticized the Migros management's attitude of not recognizing DGD-Sen as a counterpart and ignoring the will of the workers. He stated that the negotiations conducted by the Migros management with the Tez-Koop-İş Union, which is one of the main parties responsible for subcontracting and precariousness under the guise of bringing workers onto the permanent staff, are unacceptable."
General President Küçükosmanoğlu emphasized that these actions concern the entire working class and invited the public to use their power as consumers, to build solidarity, and to boycott Migros.
CHECKOUT LOCKING ACTION CARRIED OUT
Following the solidarity action, Nakliyat-İş executives and members entered a Migros store, passed the "products they took without making payment" through the checkout counters, and created a backlog at the registers, thereby carrying out a checkout locking action.
THE UNITY OF WORKERS WILL DEFEAT CAPITAL!
The statement concluded as follows: "Our union, DİSK/Nakliyat-İş, will continue to stand by the rightful struggle of Migros warehouse workers for a humane life, secure employment, and union rights; and will continue the struggle until these injustices come to an end. Migros Warehouse Workers Are Not Alone! The Unity of Workers Will Defeat Capital!"
