New era in traffic fines: License revocations on the agenda

The Ministry of Interior has completed a comprehensive action plan prepared to prevent traffic accidents. The regulation, which is expected to be submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey this week, aims to increase the deterrent effect of traffic fines. It is planned to revoke the driver's licenses of motorists for repeated offenses, particularly red light violations.

According to the new regulation, existing fines for red light violations will be significantly increased. A fine of 5 thousand liras will be applied for the first violation, 10 thousand liras for the second, and 15 thousand liras for the third. Drivers who commit a red light violation three times within a year will have their licenses suspended for 30 days. This period will increase to 60 days for the fourth violation and 90 days for the fifth. Those who commit six or more violations within the same year will have their licenses permanently revoked and will be fined 80 thousand TL.

STRICT MEASURES AGAINST ROAD RAGE

The traffic regulations are not limited to red light violations. Drivers who disrupt traffic flow and abandon their vehicles to engage in fights will also face temporary license revocation. The licenses of individuals who disrupt traffic by forming convoys at events such as military send-offs or weddings, or who fire guns into the air, will be revoked indefinitely. These individuals will be required to take written and driving tests to obtain a new license after waiting for one year.

These new regulations aim to improve traffic safety and ensure that drivers are more cautious. The Ministry of Interior hopes that these steps will significantly reduce traffic accidents.
