Record increase coming for traffic violation fines
With the new regulation, fines for those who violate traffic rules will increase significantly. Those using fake license plates will pay 280 thousand TL, while those who weave through traffic will pay 180 thousand TL.

The legislative proposal, expected to be discussed in the General Assembly of the Parliament next week, foresees an increase in fines for traffic violations. This regulation aims to reduce traffic accidents and violations.
Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya emphasized that the purpose of these fines is not to generate revenue, but to halve the number of deaths in traffic accidents.
Within the scope of the proposal, the use of fake license plates will be punished with 280 thousand TL, weaving through traffic with 180 thousand TL, drifting with 140 thousand TL, and driving without a license with 40 thousand TL. Additionally, violations such as driving with a revoked license and failing to comply with a traffic officer's 'stop' order will face a 200 thousand TL fine.
Fines for basic traffic rules such as talking on the phone while driving and running red lights are also being increased. A fine of 5 thousand TL is foreseen for each of these violations. Driving under the influence will be punished with a 25 thousand TL fine, and failure to wear a seat belt with a 2,500 TL fine. Those who engage in persistent tailgating or aggressive driving will face a 180 thousand TL fine and a 60-day suspension of their driver's license.
Furthermore, those who make unauthorized modifications to their vehicles will be fined 5 thousand TL, and the vehicle will be banned from traffic until it is brought into compliance with regulations.
