Statement from the Ministry of National Defense on a 'Terror-Free Turkey'

The Ministry of National Defense (MSB) shared the latest information regarding counter-terrorism, border security, and NATO assignments during its weekly press briefing. In the ministry's statement, it was emphasized that the vision of a "Terror-Free Turkey" is a strategic approach that strengthens Turkey's security and contributes to regional stability.

Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk, Press and Public Relations Advisor and Spokesperson for the Ministry, announced that one PKK terrorist surrendered in the past week. Aktürk stated that efforts to detect and destroy caves, shelters, and hideouts, as well as mines and improvised explosive devices, are continuing in operational areas.

In the assessment made by the ministry, it was expressed that the fight against terrorism is being carried out with "great perseverance and determination." The statement noted that the efforts of security forces and the support of the public were decisive in the successes achieved, drawing attention to the sacrifices of martyrs, veterans, and their families.

The statement further indicated that the goal of a "Terror-Free Turkey" is a strategic vision that strengthens national security and contributes to regional stability, and that the Turkish Armed Forces will continue to fulfill their duties and responsibilities in this process.

INFORMATION REGARDING BORDER AND NATO DUTIES

Sharing data on border security, Aktürk said that 490 people attempting to cross illegally were apprehended in the last week, bringing the total number of those apprehended since January 1 to 7,443. It was announced that the number of people prevented from crossing in the same period was 44,802.

Aktürk also reported that approximately 8 kilograms, or 7,734 grams, of narcotics were seized during search and sweep activities conducted along the Hakkari border line during the week.

Stating that the deployment of 5 Turkish F-16 aircraft and assigned personnel to Estonia as part of the NATO Enhanced Air Policing mission was completed on July 31, Aktürk noted that the units began their duties as of August 1. It was recorded that the mission will be carried out between August 1 and November 30.
