Türk-İş member workers react to action plan: 'It won't work with token decisions'

Türk-İş member workers have expressed their reactions ahead of the press statements to be organized by Türk-İş in 81 provinces against tax injustice, high inflation, and unemployment.

Workers demanding additional raises in factories and workplaces have pressured union branches and headquarters to take action in line with these demands. However, the announcement of Türk-İş's action plan did not satisfy the workers.

Stating that they were informed of this action plan via a text message, workers claimed that union officials do not visit workplaces and that the decisions taken are "token" gestures intended to quell reactions.

According to the report in Evrensel, the vast majority of Türk-İş member workers in various sectors are unaware of these actions ahead of the press statements to be held in 81 provinces. Stating that they learned the time and location of the action from social media or messaging groups, workers say that unionists have forgotten about factory visits. The workers emphasized that demands can only be met through actions that affect production, and that such actions must be organized together with the workers.

A Harb-İş member worker argued that more effective actions should be taken in workplaces, saying, "Actions for these demands should take place in the workplaces, the power derived from production should be used, we should not settle for simple actions, and we should make more noise. We must take the initiative for this."

On the other hand, workers stated that a previous social media campaign was announced only 15 minutes in advance, making it impossible to ensure participation, and that unionists did not visit workplaces during this process. The workers expressed that the decisions taken by Türk-İş cannot be implemented with unionists who do not come to the workplaces.
