DEADLINE FOR DRIVER'S LICENSE RENEWAL EXTENDED

The renewal period for driver's licenses has been extended until July 31, 2025. Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya stated in his announcement, "The time granted for the renewal of old-type driver's licenses has been extended until July 31, 2025, in line with current conditions and the demands of our citizens." Minister Yerlikaya shared the announcement via the social media platform X.

'In accordance with Provisional Article 10 of the Highway Traffic Regulation, the period determined for the renewal of old-type driver's licenses has been extended until July 31, 2025, taking into account current conditions and the needs of our citizens.

Currently, there are 5 million 413 thousand 148 old-type driver's licenses in circulation.

Please renew our old driver's licenses before the end of the extended period in order to prevent potential congestion at population directorates and health institutions where medical reports are issued, and to ensure our citizens can complete their transactions without experiencing any grievances.'

WHAT IS THE FINE FOR NOT RENEWING A DRIVER'S LICENSE?

The chip-based driver's license system, which was launched in 2016, is becoming mandatory for all drivers after 9 years. The Ministry of Interior has announced the deadline for those who have not yet renewed their licenses as July 31, 2025. It is anticipated that an administrative fine of 12,978 TL will be imposed on those who drive with an old-type license after this date.

HOW MUCH IS THE DRIVER'S LICENSE RENEWAL FEE?

A fee of 15 TL will be charged to drivers who are replacing their old-type licenses with chip-based ones.

Those who are renewing their new-generation driver's licenses because they have expired are required to pay 769 TL.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR DRIVER'S LICENSE RENEWAL

For a driver's license renewal application, the following are required: the old driver's license, a driver's medical report, a biometric photograph, and a receipt proving that the application fee has been paid.

Additionally, it is mandatory for the applicant to have a registered residential address in the MERNİS system.

Citizens are required to pay the 13 TL valuable paper fee and the 2 TL foundation share to tax offices or via the internet through contracted banks.
