Emphasizing that the Bafra Plain is a significant area for white cabbage production, Tosuner said, "The highest quality and most delicious hybrid and white cabbage grown in Turkey is produced in the Bafra Plain. For the year 2024, there were 25-26 thousand decares of land planted with white cabbage in June and July. However, due to the flood disasters in August and September, there was a reduction of approximately 7 thousand decares."
Stating that producers are selling white cabbage for 15 Lira per kilogram, Tosuner added, "In the markets, prices range between 25 and 30 Lira. When sold at these prices in places close to the market, prices in big cities can go up to 35, 40, or even 50 Lira. In this situation, the consumer is the one who suffers. If it weren't for the floods, prices would not be this high."
Tosuner reported that 70 percent of the white cabbage produced in the Bafra Plain is for the domestic market, while 30 percent is exported to Russia and Ukraine.
Engin Demir, a white cabbage producer in the Balıklar neighborhood, also said, "I have fifty decares of land. We started the harvest in December for the white cabbage planted in August. Due to the rainy weather this year, our product was not productive. The product we harvest goes to the vegetable wholesale market and is sold for approximately 18 to 20 Lira. Although sales are good, the crop is weaker this year compared to other years."
