Turkey is opening the doors to a new era in mobile communication. As of April 1, 5G technology will meet users in specific centers. The service, which will initially be offered only in city centers, is intended to become widespread across the country over time.
With 5G infrastructure, a significant increase is expected, especially in data transfer speeds. Those who want to benefit from this development need more than just a 5G-compatible smartphone; it is also essential to configure operator and device settings accordingly.
REQUIREMENTS FOR SWITCHING TO 5G
To use 5G, one must first have a mobile phone that supports this technology and a suitable SIM card. Experts state that most 4.5G SIM cards support 5G, but those using older SIM cards will need to upgrade.
Another important point is activating the 5G service through the operator you are subscribed to. Operators usually facilitate this process easily via SMS or mobile applications. Once all these steps are completed, users located in eligible areas will be able to benefit from 5G service.
Configuring the phone's settings correctly is the final step in switching to 5G.
For iPhone users, Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Voice & Data > the “5G” option must be enabled.
On Android devices, Settings > Mobile Networks > Preferred network type > “5G” must be selected.
COVERAGE AREA WILL BE LIMITED IN THE INITIAL PHASE
Only those living in city centers will be able to experience this new generation of connectivity. Officials state that coverage will expand to include the entire country in the coming years. Currently, 32 million of the approximately 95 million mobile phones used in Turkey are 5G-compatible; this number is expected to increase rapidly in the coming period.
The most important factor raising expectations for 5G is, of course, speed. Data transfer reaching gigabit levels will allow large files to be downloaded in seconds and will reduce connection disruptions in crowded areas such as meetings, concerts, or events. Experts warn users that data consumption may also increase with internet packages reaching such high speeds. For this reason, it is recommended that mobile internet packages be reviewed and updated according to preferences.
