Chinese media has claimed that Apple has reached an agreement with the Chinese AI giant Baidu to integrate generative artificial intelligence technology into its devices.
According to the report on Ntv, Apple will receive local generative AI model services from Baidu for the iPhone 16, Mac operating system, and iOS 18. Baidu's ChatGPT-style AI language model, called ERNIE Bot, stands out for its ability to understand human intent and provide accurate, logical, and fluent responses near human levels.
This move by Apple indicates that it plans to make a major breakthrough in generative AI services in its iOS and macOS updates. It had previously been claimed that the company was preparing to integrate AI into iOS 18 and that this update would be the largest operating system update in the company's history. Improvements to the AI capabilities of the voice assistant Siri are also among the expected developments.
Following the news that Baidu would be Apple's local AI model provider, it was noted that Baidu shares rose by more than 5 percent today.
