Bumble has developed a new identity verification feature to curb fake profiles and offer its users a safer experience. Through this feature, users can verify their identities by uploading government-issued official identification documents. Verified profiles receive a special badge, allowing them to demonstrate their reliability to other users. Additionally, users can choose to match only with verified profiles or request that their matches complete the identity verification process.
Currently active in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, France, India, Ireland, Spain, Germany, Mexico, and New Zealand, this feature will be made available in more countries in the coming period.
Bumble implemented the identity verification process as a measure against artificial intelligence technologies that lead to an increase in fake profiles. Furthermore, it is taking additional steps to enhance user safety during a period when fraud attempts are on the rise.
In addition to the identity verification feature, Bumble has introduced three new features.
Share date feature: Users can share the person they are meeting, the meeting time, and the location with friends they trust. If there is a change in plans, updates can be made directly through the app. A similar feature was also introduced by Tinder in 2024.
Review before sending feature: Aiming to prevent inappropriate messages during chats, this feature warns users to review the content of a message before sending it.
Explore page: A new discovery section has been added to make it easier for users to match with people who have common interests. Working similarly to Tinder's “Explore” page, this feature aims to offer more accurate matches with profiles that are refreshed every day.
These new features are part of Bumble's strategy to accelerate growth once again. In the last quarter of 2024, it was reported that the company experienced a 3.8% decline in app revenue, with total revenue falling to 212.4 million dollars. Bumble aims to compensate for this loss by strengthening security and improving the user experience.
