According to a report by Webtekno, the practice will begin in a few select markets in June and will be implemented in all countries by September. From that date forward, an additional fee will be required to share passwords with individuals outside the household.
It was previously announced in August of last year that Disney+ would take a step similar to the "password sharing crackdown" launched by Netflix in 2023. However, there was no definitive information regarding when this practice would begin for Disney+. In an interview with CNBC, Iger has now cleared up the uncertainty surrounding this issue.
With the widespread implementation of the password sharing crackdown, it has been stated that Disney+ users will no longer be able to share their passwords for free. The amount of the additional fee to be charged for adding a person from outside the household has not yet been disclosed. This fee will be revealed once the practice begins in June. The company's CFO, Hugh Johnston, stated that subscribers will be sent warnings in cases of suspected unauthorized sharing.
