Cybersecurity researchers have announced that an app spreading under the name 'Mobdro Pro IP TV + VPN' is being used to drain users' bank accounts. It has been reported that more than 3,000 Android devices across Europe have been affected by this malware.

The app tricks users by claiming to offer access to free movies, TV series, and sports broadcasts. However, it actually contains malicious software called 'Klopatra,' which takes control of the device and can perform banking transactions. According to a report prepared by Cleafy, attackers can read screen content and perform operations on the device by using Android's accessibility services. This method stands out as a technique frequently used in modern banking fraud.

Researchers stated that certain expressions and infrastructure details found in the software's code indicate that the attack may originate from Turkey. The presence of Turkish function names within the code and the discovery of Turkish terms in data coming from control servers are among the elements supporting this claim.

According to Cleafy's estimates, approximately 1,000 users have been defrauded through this fake app. Experts warned that because the success rate of such attacks is high, other cybercriminal groups may adopt similar methods. The report emphasized that an increase in similar fake apps could complicate detection and analysis processes. Users are advised not to install 'Mobdro Pro IP TV + VPN' or similar apps that offer pirated content, and to delete any existing ones immediately.
