It is claimed that the satellites are burning up in Earth's atmosphere, releasing 1.3 tons of satellite debris every hour and creating a layer of "conductive particles" in orbit.
According to TRT, citing Wionews, recent estimates by astronomers this March indicate that there are currently 5,504 Starlink satellites in orbit, with 5,442 of them operational. However, plans are in place to launch tens of thousands more. Solter-Hunt stated that particles from these satellites could disrupt or trap Earth's magnetic field at the end of their life cycles.
Although she described this as an "extreme scenario," there is concern that a layer of charged metal dust could lead to "atmospheric erosion" similar to the fates of Mars and Mercury. Research on this subject shows how the losses of Starlink satellites in February 2022 demonstrate how moderate geomagnetic storms can negatively affect assets in low Earth orbit.
