Earthquake damage to be measured in advance
Graz University of Technology (TU) in Austria has announced that they have developed a new technology capable of measuring the potential damage severe earthquakes may cause to buildings in advance.

In a statement from the university, it was noted that changes in buildings are measured with millimeter precision from a distance of 20 thousand kilometers using navigation satellites.
Pointing out that a system has been developed using this method, the statement conveyed that by measuring the condition of buildings, damage to structures can be minimized.
PROVIDES CLUES ABOUT THE LIFESPAN OF LARGE STRUCTURES
Werner Lienhart, head of the Institute of Engineering Geodesy and Measurement Systems at TU and one of the authors of the research, stated, "This system monitors the building both statically and dynamically, allowing us to gain a deep understanding of the structure's current health.
This provides very important clues about the lifespans of large engineering structures such as bridges and dams."
The system was first tested on the DC Towers in Vienna.
