EU announces common charger will be used for electronic devices
The European Commission has announced that as of 2024, chargers will be produced in a single, uniform type for all electronic devices, marking a transition to a common charging system.

The European Commission announced that the draft law submitted to the European Parliament on June 27, regarding the production of chargers in a single, uniform type for all electronic devices, will be implemented by member states as of 2024.
The Commission's statement included the following:
"The 'common charger' requirements will apply to all mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, headsets, portable speakers, video game consoles, e-readers, earbuds, keyboards, mice, and portable navigation systems as of 2024. It will also apply to laptops as of 2026.
USB-C will be the common port. This will allow consumers to charge their devices with any USB-C charger, regardless of the device brand. Such transition periods will provide the industry with sufficient time to adapt before implementation."
"ANNUAL ELECTRONIC WASTE WILL DECREASE BY 980 TONS"
Regarding the 'common charger' system, the Commission stated that it would provide a more environmentally friendly environment and relieve consumers from having to purchase an extra new charger when buying a new electronic device. The statement noted that this practice would reduce the annual amount of electronic waste by 980 tons.
