Everyone say hello: Blue Ghost has sent its first photos from the Moon

The Blue Ghost lander, developed by Firefly Aerospace, successfully touched down on the lunar surface on March 2. This significant mission was completed as Blue Ghost successfully reached the Moon's Mare Crisium (Sea of Crises) region. With this, Blue Ghost earned the title of the second private spacecraft to land on the lunar surface. Following its landing on the Moon, Blue Ghost transmitted its first photos to Earth.

Blue Ghost performed a high-precision landing, positioning itself just 100 meters from the target area. Thanks to its advanced hazard avoidance system, it managed to land at a safe spot by avoiding two large rocks on the surface. This system allowed the vehicle to detect obstacles and maneuver during the descent, increasing mission safety.

FIRST IMAGES HAVE ARRIVED

Following the landing, Blue Ghost transmitted the first images from the lunar surface to Earth. Among these images was Earth, seen as a faint blue dot shining from the depths of space. While it was stated that the images were transmitted via S-band antennas, it was announced that with the successful activation of the X-band antenna, higher-resolution images and videos would be sent rapidly.

14-DAY MISSION HAS BEGUN

Blue Ghost's mission on the lunar surface will last 14 days. The 10 scientific payloads on the vehicle will collect important data on the Moon's radiation environment, regolith (lunar soil) structure, and solar winds. 

IT WILL RECORD A SOLAR ECLIPSE

One of the most exciting moments of the mission will take place on March 14. Looking from the Moon toward Earth, Blue Ghost will record a total solar eclipse. At the same time, when viewed from Earth, the Moon will darken completely and turn a reddish color known as a 'blood moon.' These moments will offer a great visual feast for space exploration.

LUNAR DUST AND SUNSET OBSERVATIONS

On March 16, Blue Ghost will record the sunset on the Moon and examine how lunar dust rises depending on solar activity. This phenomenon was first observed during the Apollo 17 mission and remains a subject of great curiosity for scientists.
