GTA 2, one of the games in the Grand Theft Auto series released in 1999, has returned to the spotlight with a new graphics mod. The RTX Remix mod, prepared by mod developer gabdeg, updates the game's visual side with modern technologies without changing its core structure.

The standout feature of the mod is that it brings full ray tracing support to GTA 2. Utilizing NVIDIA's RTX Remix platform, which aims to bring modern graphics technologies to older games, the project significantly changes lighting and shadow effects with a custom solution running on the game's Direct3D 9 infrastructure.

Thanks to this, street lamps, vehicle headlights, and other light sources in the environment affect the scene in real-time. While the game's top-down perspective is preserved, light and shadow transitions, in particular, take on a more modern look.

ACHIEVES A SMOOTHER IMAGE COMPARED TO THE ORIGINAL

The RTX Remix mod also adds a dynamic day-night cycle. As the amount of light and shadows in the environment changes with the progression of the day, the difference between night and day is reflected in the game's atmosphere.

In addition to visual innovations, there is also a significant improvement in frame rate. The mod offers 60 FPS frame generation support for GTA 2. Thus, a smoother image can be achieved compared to the original game.

The mod does not change GTA 2's missions, map, or core gameplay systems. The focus of the work is on modernizing graphics quality, lighting, and visual fluidity.
