Human labor is more economically attractive than artificial intelligence

A study by researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US has revealed that, when considering the wages paid for tasks that the human visual system can perform, only 23 percent of these tasks are economically viable for artificial intelligence automation.

Researchers from MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, the Productivity Institute, and IBM's Institute for Business Value have shared the findings of their study on which jobs would be economically attractive to automate.

Within the scope of the study titled "Beyond AI Exposure: Which Tasks are Cost-Effective to Automate with Computer Vision?", the cost-effectiveness of automating tasks that the human visual system can perform was modeled.

VIABLE FOR 23 PERCENT

At a time when concerns are growing that artificial intelligence will take away people's jobs in many sectors, the findings of the study showed that, when considering the wages paid for these tasks, only 23 percent are economically viable for artificial intelligence automation.

The study noted that while the impact of artificial intelligence taking over employees' jobs will be significant, it will occur gradually, leaving room for policies and training to mitigate the effects of unemployment.
