Intel on the verge of a split: US administration in contact
Broadcom and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) have moved to acquire certain divisions of Intel. According to potential agreements, Intel's chip design and marketing units would pass to Broadcom, while its manufacturing facilities would be transferred to TSMC.

The company is continuing discussions with its advisors regarding a potential acquisition offer. Meanwhile, TSMC aims to take over Intel's manufacturing facilities. The Taiwan-based technology giant is evaluating options to carry out this acquisition directly or through an investor consortium.
US GOVERNMENT MONITORING
According to the Wall Street Journal, these potential agreements could mean a breakup of Intel. The Donald Trump administration has been in contact with the company's Interim Chairman of the Board, Frank Yeary. The US considers Intel a critical technology firm for national security and is taking a cautious approach toward its facilities coming under the control of a foreign company.
TSMC MAY NOT RECEIVE APPROVAL
TSMC was founded in Taiwan in 1987 and is the world's largest independent semiconductor manufacturer. It supplies chips to major technology firms such as Apple, Qualcomm, Nvidia, and AMD. However, its acquisition of Intel's factories could be vetoed by the Trump administration. In 2023, Intel received 7.86 billion dollars in government support from the US Department of Commerce.
In terms of market value, TSMC is much larger than Intel's 100 billion dollar market value, with 1 trillion dollars. TSMC is the 11th most valuable company in the world.
