Apple has officially announced iOS 27 at its WWDC 2026 developer conference. Following the event, the first developer beta of the operating system was made available. Based on Apple's previous release schedules, the final version of the new update is expected to be released to users in September 2026.

At the heart of iOS 27 is Apple's AI strategy, Apple Intelligence. The most notable highlight of the update is the long-awaited transformation of Siri. The new Siri, which is said to have been rewritten from the ground up, aims to engage in more natural conversations, maintain the context of previous interactions, and perform searches within the user's personal data based on that context.

It is also planned that the new Siri will evolve from being an assistant that merely provides information into one capable of executing multi-step tasks across applications such as Messages, Music, Reminders, Mail, and Calendar.

According to Apple's internal testing, iOS 27 will enable up to a 30 percent increase in app launch speeds. It is stated that the time it takes for newly captured shots to appear in the Photos app will be reduced by 70 percent, and AirDrop file transfers will be up to 80 percent faster. The search infrastructure in Spotlight, Mail, and Photos has also been rebuilt.

The Photos app is also being updated with new AI tools. The "Spatial Reframing" feature will allow for the recomposition of frames after photos have been taken. The "Extend" tool will be able to fill in areas outside the image boundaries with the help of AI. The "Clean Up" tool has been improved to remove larger objects from photos.

On the Safari side, the automatic grouping of open tabs based on content types such as shopping, travel, or work stands out. With the "Notify Me" feature, users will be able to receive notifications for price drops or stock changes on selected web pages.

Apple has also made adjustments to the translucent Liquid Glass design introduced in the previous version based on user feedback. It was reported that text and icons have been made more prominent in the new version, and users will be able to adjust this design to their own preference via a slider to be added to the Settings menu.
