Cybersecurity company ESET has warned users against malware that mimics popular content creation tools like CapCut. It recommended that these applications be downloaded only from official websites or trusted sources.

With a wide range of use from mobile devices to desktop computers, CapCut is preferred by users for the features it offers. However, this popularity has also attracted the attention of cybercriminals. Experts state that malicious software mimicking the CapCut application is spreading rapidly online and aims to take control of users' devices.

Cybercriminals are trying to trap users with promises of AI-enhanced content creation. By downloading fake applications, users risk not only their data but also face the danger of losing control of their devices to scammers.

Experts emphasized the need to be cautious against these scams, which spread through social media messages, emails, and suspicious advertisements, and offered the following recommendations: 

When downloading new software, ensure you are getting it from a legitimate source, usually the publisher's official website.

Avoid clicking on unsolicited links in emails or social media messages that claim to direct you to such websites; the messages may be fake.

Be careful with advertisements regarding applications; it is better to go to the website by typing it directly into your browser or searching for it in your preferred search engine.

Examine the website's URL - software manufacturers do not normally use various strange extensions or sneaky "alternative" versions in URLs.

Ensure your operating system, browser, and other software are up to date to protect against known security vulnerabilities.

Use multi-layered security software.

Adhere to basic cybersecurity hygiene practices, such as using strong, unique passwords and enabling two-factor authentication for all online accounts.
