Microsoft continues to build new data campuses to expand its cloud and computing solutions. The latest of these will be built in the Mount Pleasant area of Wisconsin. It was stated that it will be established on an area larger than 1,000 acres, and it was reported that the company has begun work.
At the center of the deal was a 407-acre plot of land belonging to the Creuziger family. It was stated that Microsoft paid the farming family a staggering price of 76 million dollars to purchase this area. The family's land also includes the "Land of the Giants" pumpkin farm and corn maze, which were stated to be worth 600 thousand dollars.
THE FAMILY COULD NOT TURN DOWN THE OFFER
According to local sources, a great stroke of luck befell the Creuziger family a few years ago. In 2017, the local government offered the family approximately 20 million dollars and requested that the land be sold to Foxconn. However, the farming family, who turned down that money, could not turn down Microsoft's request.
The tech giant purchased another 641 acres of land in Mount Pleasant in addition to the Creuziger land, with an investment of nearly 100 million dollars. Microsoft estimates that the construction of the new campus will cost over 1 billion dollars.
The company announced that it would meet the needs of this region with the new data center. It will use the Mount Pleasant center to strengthen its growing cloud and artificial intelligence operations. The facility is also expected to provide employment for more than 200 people.
