Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that an important step has been taken to implement 5G technology in Turkey. The Minister stated that the 5G tender will be held on October 16, 2025, and that mobile operators will begin offering 5G services from that date. The tender will be conducted for a total of 400 MHz of frequency with a minimum value of 2 billion 125 million dollars, and 11 different frequency packages will be allocated to operators.

Minister Uraloğlu stated that only operators currently holding GSM, IMT-2000/UMTS, and IMT authorizations in Turkey will be eligible to participate in the tender. Operators will be able to pay frequency fees in 3 equal installments, and the tender specification fee has been set at 1 million lira. Operators wishing to participate in the tender will be able to submit their bids starting from October 9, 2025, and the deadline for applications will be October 16, 2025, at 09:30. The tender will be held on the same day at 10:30 at the BTK Headquarters.

Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that 5G technology will play a major role in Turkey's digitalization process. Stating that mobile internet speeds will increase at least 10-fold with the new era, Uraloğlu said that a major transformation will also take place in production processes thanks to machine-type communication features. He also stated that the rates of domestic and national content in 5G infrastructure will be increased, and that a requirement will be introduced to use up to 60 percent domestic products and up to 30 percent national communication products. It was stated that these steps would reduce foreign dependency in technology and encourage domestic production.

It was announced that operators will pay 5 percent of their annual turnover to the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) starting from April 30, 2029, and that the authorization period will be valid until December 31, 2042.
