Nearly 2,000 cuneiform tablets read using artificial intelligence

Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Gökhan Yazgı, speaking to reporters in the city where he arrived for the "Symposium on New Information and Perspectives in the Footsteps of the Hittites," stated that the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Ankara University have implemented the "Project for 3D Scanning of Cuneiform Tablets at the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations and Reading of Boğazköy Tablets by Artificial Intelligence."

Stating that they are working hard to utilize technology to better understand the Hittite civilization, Yazgı explained that they have incorporated artificial intelligence into the study alongside the 3D scanning of stone tablets.

"WE HAVE SCANNED AND COMPLETED NEARLY 2,000 TABLETS"

Reporting that they have scanned and matched the tablets obtained from archaeological excavations, Yazgı noted the following:

"We have enabled the completion of the pieces here, the broken tablets, with the help of artificial intelligence. So far, we have scanned, completed, and enabled the reading of nearly 2,000 tablets. We have taken a major step toward reaching more reliable information and data regarding Hittite culture and civilization. In our future work, we, as the Ministry, together with our universities, will be engaged in intensive efforts for both our excavation work, restoration projects, and the evaluation and reporting of these findings, as well as for better promoting the Hittite civilization to the world."
