NETFLIX WILL PREFER DIGITAL PLATFORMS
Netflix never accepted releasing its films in theaters first and then streaming them on its digital platform, but it did agree to organize theatrical screenings for productions expected to be contenders during awards season.
Netflix's Chief Content Officer, Bela Bajaria, announced that they will never show their films in theaters. Bajaria defended this decision by saying, "Our members love watching movies and they want to watch them on Netflix." Referring to competitors like Amazon and Apple, which do show their films in theaters, Bajaria stated that while some rivals prefer this method, their sole focus will remain on their digital platform.
NETFLIX SCHEDULE
The 2024 schedule that Netflix shared this week also supports these statements by Bajaria. It is notable that Netflix, which for years has released films in the autumn months that could be effective during awards season, has no such films in this year's schedule. The company, which previously joined the race with ambitious productions like The Irishman, Marriage Story, and Roma, does not have a single production with the same profile in this year's lineup.
