A small celestial body named 2025 PN7 is moving in the same orbit around the Sun as Earth, unlike the Moon, which orbits Earth. Defined by scientists as a "quasi-satellite," this asteroid is approximately 18 to 36 meters in diameter. This is equivalent to the height of a 6-12 story building.
First observed by the Pan-STARRS telescope at the Haleakala Observatory, 2025 PN7 has sparked significant interest in the scientific community. Calculations show that this celestial body has actually been moving alongside Earth since the 1960s. When viewed from space, it creates the impression that Earth has two natural satellites.
According to assessments by NASA and international astronomical communities, 2025 PN7 travels around the Sun in a ratio known as a "1:1 resonance" with Earth. In other words, it moves almost simultaneously with Earth. This situation will allow the object to maintain this special orbit until the year 2083. After that date, it is expected to move away from this position due to the gravitational effects of the Sun and Earth.
