New lawsuit filed against TikTok over addiction claims

A new lawsuit has emerged against TikTok, one of the world's fastest-growing mobile applications. 

The new accusations, centered in the US, allege that the app harms children and contains addictive elements. While TikTok officials claim that the application does not create any addiction among children or young people, experts disagree. 

TIKTOK'S ADDICTIVE EFFECT

Research indicates that when people use TikTok, the reward system in their brains, which is fueled by dopamine, is activated. As users continue to use the app, they begin to associate the TikTok experience with feelings of pleasure and satisfaction, leading to addiction. In particular, some dangerous trends on TikTok reach millions of people in a short time and can cause harm to children.

According to details reported by The Verge, the Governor of Utah states that children are being made addicted to the app. Utah Governor Spencer Cox made a press statement regarding the lawsuit. Accusing TikTok officials of misleading parents about the app being safe for children, Cox states that the overall structure of the application violates the law.

If TikTok is found liable, it could face compensation exceeding 300 thousand dollars. Previously, TikTok was fined 15.7 million dollars for violating data protection laws in the UK. In Ireland, the company was fined 367 million dollars due to the way it processed children's data.
