Scientists say the solar-powered smart clothing they have produced works like a personal air conditioner.

The system uses a flexible solar cell and an electronic device. Together, these form the clothing that allows the body to adapt to changes in ambient temperature.

Researchers state that wearing traditional clothing intended to keep people warm or cool will eventually become difficult as climate change continues. However, traditional clothing could be even more dangerous in extreme conditions such as outer space or other planets. Therefore, clothing that can rapidly adapt to both extreme heat and extreme cold could be vital for those exploring harsh environments.

COOLS IN HIGH TEMPERATURES, HEATS IN THE COLD

In the new study reported by Independent Türkçe, scientists say this system can be integrated into traditional clothing. When the system is added, this device can provide 10.1 degrees Celsius of cooling and, at the same time, 3.2 degrees Celsius of additional warmth depending on body temperature.

This means that even when the outside temperature fluctuates between 12.5 and 37.6 degrees Celsius, the system can keep users within a comfortable temperature range of 32-36 degrees.

The authors of the study state that the system provides 24 hours of use with only 12 hours of sunlight.

Other researchers who developed the new technology wrote in a related article published alongside the study that this technology "offers many possibilities for developing actively controlled, self-powered, wearable, regional temperature management systems and for humans to better adapt to harsh environments."

It is possible to imagine a future where all-weather thermal management is achieved, which is not limited to a single energy source and where extra collected energy can even power electronic devices under special conditions.

The new study was explained in the article titled "Self-sustaining personal all-day thermoregulatory clothing using only sunlight", which was published yesterday in the scientific journal Science.
