Samsung Electronics officials, who held a press conference at the consumer electronics and IT trade show CES 2024, explained their vision for how artificial intelligence technology will ensure users have a more intuitive and comfortable device experience than ever before.

In the statement, which included his speech at the meeting, Samsung CEO Jong-Hee (JH) Han stated that while artificial intelligence improves people's daily lives through connected technologies, it will continue to work "in a controlled manner and in the background" at all times.

Stating that with the emergence of artificial intelligence, smarter and better experiences will redefine the way we live, JH Han said, "Samsung's broad portfolio of powerful devices and our pursuit of open-source collaborations will help bring artificial intelligence and 'hyper-connectivity' features to everyone."

"AS SAMSUNG, WE HAVE BEEN STRATEGICALLY INVESTING IN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE FOR YEARS"

Mert Gürsoy, Vice President of Consumer Electronics Sales and Marketing at Samsung Turkey, also emphasized that artificial intelligence is transforming the world while taking communication and connected living to a new level, noting, "As Samsung, we have been strategically investing in artificial intelligence for years. We believe that AI technology is of key importance in order to offer a more comfortable, sustainable, and customizable lifestyle."

Addressing their AI vision under the headings of "society, product, and experience," Gürsoy said, "As Samsung, we are in a guiding position in this field, and we will continue our investments and product developments in this area without interruption. We are also seeing the results of these efforts from our consumers."

Emphasizing that they closed 2023 very successfully in terms of market performance, Gürsoy provided the following information:

"While the TV market in Turkey showed a 10 percent unit growth performance in 2023, reaching approximately 2.2 million units in the January-November period, a 4 percent contraction occurred in the global market in terms of units. While the market grew by 25 percent in terms of revenue, reaching the 1.4 billion dollar level, a 10 percent contraction was observed in global markets during the same period. As Samsung, we increased our revenue market share in the TV category to 29.5 percent, an increase of 0.6 compared to the previous year. We are among the countries with the highest share in 8K performance within total sales when compared to other countries. Considering the refrigerator market, the market size in the January-November 2023 period reached 2.1 million units with a 13 percent growth in units and a volume of 1.7 billion dollars with 34 percent growth. Thanks to our constantly developed new technologies and innovative models, our market share in the wardrobe-type refrigerator category reached 60 percent. The washing machine market reached 2.2 million units with a 15 percent growth in units in the same period. Looking at it in terms of revenue, it reached a volume of 1.3 billion dollars with a 39 percent growth on a dollar basis. We have a 35 percent market share in the washer-dryer segment and have maintained our market leadership since 2016."

Jonathan Gabrio, Head of the Connected Experience Center at Samsung Electronics America, explained how artificial intelligence technology is transforming visual display products and the use of digital appliances.

After being introduced for the first time at CES 2020, Samsung presented significant improvements this year for its round-form, AI-powered robot, Ballie.

To improve kitchen and dining experiences, Samsung also introduced the "4-Door Bespoke Flex refrigerator with AI Family Hub+2." The refrigerator features a 32-inch screen that offers the new "AI Vision Inside4" feature. This feature uses an internal camera that recognizes 33 different food items placed in and taken out of the refrigerator and suggests recipes based on these ingredients.

The "Anyplace Induction5" series takes AI connectivity a step further. Recipes saved in the "Samsung Food" application can be shared from the oven's 7-inch wide screen, allowing users to follow ingredients while preparing their meals.

Samsung's artificial intelligence technologies are also present in appliances outside the kitchen. The new "BESPOKE AI Combo" washer-dryer features "AI Hub6." The 7-inch LCD screen, which acts as an intuitive control center managing the laundry process, offers users an easy and enjoyable washing and drying experience.

The "Bespoke Jet Bot Combo," a robot vacuum and mop that Samsung will soon launch, also utilizes artificial intelligence for a more convenient and effective cleaning experience.

"SmartThings," which enables users to easily control the status and location of all devices, uses "LiDAR9" technology in connected devices such as robot vacuums to create digital floor plans. SmartThings will launch the "3D Map View" feature, developed to provide a more detailed experience on Samsung smartphones and TVs, in March.

Using smart sensors and artificial intelligence, the SmartThings platform can detect unusual situations such as falls and send alerts to designated family members and employees.

The Bixby voice assistant can understand the user's location and activities with its advanced artificial intelligence capabilities and automatically direct commands to the most appropriate devices.

Samsung is also focusing on the importance of security and privacy regarding the future of AI-powered and interconnected devices. Shin Baik from the Mobile Experience Security Team touched upon the company's security solutions as a fundamental element of the hyper-connected age.

At the event, Inhee Chung, Vice President of the Samsung Corporate Sustainability Center, also highlighted Samsung's plans for creating a more circular economy.

Additionally, the "Certified ReNewed" program, which the company has implemented in the US and certain European countries, offers affordable refurbished phones. The "Galaxy Upcycling" program allows consumers to reuse or redesign their old phones in creative ways.

Ways to contribute to sustainability efforts in the technologies offered by Samsung also include utilizing artificial intelligence to make the use of its products more energy-efficient through features such as "SmartThings AI Energy Mode."

Thanks to a new collaboration with Tesla, "SmartThings Energy" is becoming more useful both inside and outside the home.

Samsung is adding new features to digital appliances to increase accessibility, such as responding to hands-free gestures. Mobile devices offer automatically generated captions during calls. TVs and screens feature a new AI-powered text-to-speech feature that converts captions into audio.
