Senior role for Turkish engineer at Google's AI division

Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai announced a management change at Google DeepMind; Turkish engineer Koray Kavukçuoğlu has taken on a new role.

Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has undergone a restructuring in the senior management of its AI division, Google DeepMind. Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai announced the change in a statement on his X account.

According to Pichai's statement, Demis Hassabis, one of the founders of Google DeepMind, will serve as the chairman of the Google DeepMind board and as Alphabet's chief scientist. It was also noted that Hassabis will continue to lead Isomorphic Labs.

In the new structure, Koray Kavukçuoğlu, who served as the Chief Technology Officer and Chief AI Architect at Google DeepMind, has been appointed as the senior vice president of Google DeepMind. It was reported that Kavukçuoğlu will be responsible for model development processes, pioneering AI research, the Gemini application, and developer teams.

Pichai stated that in his new role, Hassabis will dedicate his time and focus to shaping the future of artificial general intelligence and scientific discovery, noting that these efforts are significant for both Alphabet and humanity.

Highlighting Koray Kavukçuoğlu's experience at Google DeepMind, Pichai remarked, "Koray has been at Google DeepMind for 13 years and is a world-renowned expert in his field. He built our deep learning team and led major breakthroughs such as WaveNet and DQN. Google DeepMind is in safe hands."
