Rockstar Games' highly anticipated game GTA 6 is back in the spotlight, this time due to leak allegations and a drop in Take-Two shares as the new trailer schedule approaches. Gameplay footage and map details, which are claimed to belong to the game, have been circulating on the internet since the beginning of the week.
Concurrent with the spread of the leaks, shares of Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two Interactive, also declined. While the company's share price started the week at around $245, it fell to the $236 level. This movement signaled a loss of billions of dollars in the company's market value.
However, it does not seem possible to attribute the share decline solely to the GTA 6 footage. The fact that Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick recently sold approximately $10 million worth of company shares and the company reported a loss of over $30 million in the last quarter were also among the developments on investors' radar. A decline was also recorded in the company's net bookings.
MIXED PICTURE FOR SHARES
Take-Two shares have followed a volatile course throughout 2026. With the latest drop, the company's shares have lost over 6% of their value since the beginning of the year. Despite this, the performance over the last year is still up by 3.3%.
The longer-term outlook presents a different picture. Take-Two shares have risen by approximately 50% over the last five years. The company's shares, which were trading at around $18 when GTA 5 was released in 2013, are currently hovering above $235.
During the same period, the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan purchasing nearly 150,000 Take-Two shares for approximately $37 million was also one of the notable transactions.
Rockstar had previously faced a major leak originating from GTA 6. In September 2022, numerous images from the game's development phase were leaked online, and Strauss Zelnick later described the incident as "frustrating and upsetting." At the time, Zelnick stated that the leak had no financial impact on the company.
According to Rockstar's current schedule, GTA 6 will be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19. Although it is claimed that the game is being tested on the Nintendo Switch 2, no official statement has been made regarding this version yet. GTA 6 is expected to return to the agenda with a long trailer to be released via Netflix on August 27.
