Teenager who leaked GTA 6 videos sentenced to indefinite hospital detention

Rockstar's GTA 6, which recently shared its first official trailer, made headlines in September 2022 with a massive leak. Behind this leak, which included dozens of videos and many other details about the game, was the hacker group known as Lapsus$.

INDEFINITE HOSPITAL DETENTION

A significant development occurred today regarding Arion Kurtaj, who is considered one of the most important figures in the group. According to the BBC, the 18-year-old hacker was sentenced to indefinite hospital detention by the court's decision.

In the court hearing held in the United Kingdom, the judge stated that Kurtaj, who is reported to be autistic, remains dangerous. A mental health assessment indicated that the hacker has "the intention to return to cybercrime as soon as possible." Furthermore, the court noted that Kurtaj has recently shown tendencies toward violence, and that they have received dozens of reports of injuries and property damage.

SENTENCE TO BE REDUCED IF DEEMED "NO LONGER DANGEROUS"

Following these findings, an order was issued for the hacker to remain in a hospital indefinitely. According to the information received, Kurtaj will be held in a secure hospital until doctors decide he is no longer dangerous. This means that if he is deemed no longer dangerous, his sentence could be reduced.

Lapsus$, which has been significantly active in recent years, had carried out attacks on many major companies including NVIDIA, Uber, Samsung, Ubisoft, and Microsoft, in addition to Rockstar. Kurtaj was actually caught in January 2022 and subsequently released. However, he continued his activities after being released. He was arrested for the final time after carrying out the Rockstar attack in September 2022.
