It has been reported that US electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla has surpassed the 3 million vehicle production threshold at its factory in Shanghai, China.
In a statement released by the company, it was announced that the 3 millionth vehicle produced at the factory rolled off the assembly line yesterday evening. It was noted that the vehicle is a fully electric "Model Y" car.
At the factory, which began operations in January 2019, it took more than 30 months to surpass the 1 million vehicle production mark, while with the increase in production capacity, the jump from 2 million to 3 million units occurred in less than 13 months.
Tesla's Shanghai factory rolled its 2 millionth vehicle off the line in September 2023. The number of vehicles produced at this factory in the first 9 months of the year reached 675 thousand, accounting for more than half of the brand's global production.
The Shanghai factory stands out as Tesla's largest production hub outside the US. Vehicles produced at this factory are exported to Asia-Pacific countries outside of China as well as to Europe. Approximately 1 million of the 3 million vehicles produced at the factory to date have been sold in these markets.
